Ta Moko Tatau Tattoo Convention Day 1

Today was the first day of the Ta Moko Tatau Tattoo Convention in Auckland, New Zealand, and as usual, I took my bad point-n-shoots and uploaded pics to Flickr.

See the Day One photos here.

I'll have a proper redux of the show after this weekend because all I can muster right now is ... wow. I'm overwhelmed with the beauty, kindness and spirit of today's convention, and so to spare you my sentimental melodrama, I'll just leave you with the images of the day. More later.

I saw the pictures and all I can say is ...WOW.!

You are of course, bringing back t-shirts from the convention right?

Speaking off tribal and other black work, here is Colin Dales post in myspace. Take notice, people!

A New Shop

When Erik Reime announced his planned retirement in 2008, plans were made by partner Colin Dale to continue the legacy of Kunsten på Kroppen.

Colin's plans of a expanded shop at a new location proceeded at a fast pace... but unfortunately due to the financial crisis and the following new Danish financial law, Erik's plans of early retirement have been put on hold. So while Kunsten på Kroppen will be continuing for the time being, Colin will be opening a new location in København.

So with all that aside, Colin would also like to announce the opening of his new shop, "Skin & Bone" which will be open from the first of January 2010. "Skin & Bone" will be combination gallery and studio. The gallery will exhibit art and ethnographic handcrafts related to tattooing, while the studio will have Colin tattooing alongside various guest artists throughout the year.

Through Colin's years of travelling and tattooing around the world he has met and worked with a wide range of tattoo artists and experts working in ethnographic and other specialized styles.

Amongst these we hope to have hand tattooists from Borneo, Polynesia and Japan as well as some of the worlds leading artists in Blackwork and Dotwork coming to visit.

Check out Colin's work at the following address:

Please feel free to clip and paste this on your own bulletins and forward to your friends as I can use all the publicity I can get :-)
Thanxox- Colin

Thanks, PDC.

Colin told me in London and when he does open up we'll have a big post on the new shop.

I appreciate you posting the advance info.

Colin, thanks for posting this update. We look forward to seeing your new place and will definitely be passing by in 2010.
My husband and I were wondering why we couldn't find you anymore on Kunsten på Kroppen and are now happy to have "found" you again, as my husband really wants to add a tattoo to the one you made on him in October 2008.
Pheeew, what a relief ; )
Good luck with the opening, see you in KBH.
