Last Wednesday, we let you know about the new special edition Sullen Clothing tees designed by renowned black & grey artist Jose Lopez of Lowrider Tattoo. Sullen has offered the tees to two lucky winners, and they were picked via Randomized.com from those who hit us up @NeedlesandSins on Twitter and commented in Needles & Sins Syndicate Group on Facebook.
And the winners are ...Charlie Bryson Altman and Stevis Gramenis. Congrats!
You can still get you hands on the tees through Sullen's online store here. The "Jose Lopez (signature tee)," is now available for $24 and the second design will drop Spring 2013. Check 'em.
Our friends at Father Panik Industries have clothed and bejeweled me for over a decade with their hand crafted badassery, and every year they keep coming up with more designs to put on my wish list.
The latest in their jewelry collection is this anatomical skull pendant in antiqued brass with 18" chain. [The skull measures 5/8"x1/2"x7/16" (17mm x 12mm x 10mm).] According the the Panik peeps, "The skull spins around slowly as you move, so you get to enjoy the skull 360 degrees. The wax model for this was carefully hand carved after studying human skull anatomy, then cast in brass in NYC. Each one is hand polished, antiqued and assembled here in Brooklyn USA." The brass pendant sells for $48 and you can also purchase it in sterling silver for $116.
Also be sure to check out their long standing favorites like the knuckle tattoo gloves (which I'm modelling here), their brass knuckle rosaries, and their towels, tees and hoodies, among others.
You can also find Father Panik online at Etsy. To catch them in person, check their events listings, which include NYC independent artist markets as well as tattoo conventions throughout the US, throughout the year.
One of our favorite tattoo blogs, Swallows & Daggers, which highlights Traditional and Neo-Traditional tattooing worldwide, has teamed up with indie apparel designers Death/Traitors (NYC) and the UK brand Honour Over Glory to create a new collection of shirts and crewneck jumpers that pay tribute to Americana imagery with a punk bent. [I think the promo pix are pretty sexy as well.]
You can order the shirts for about 16 British Pounds on the Swallows & Daggers shop. There you'll also find four issues of the S&D zine, which are a great read.
On their blog, check the artist interviews, news, & meanings behind classic tattoo motifs.
On Tuesday, we posted another Sullen t-shirt contest, where two emails were chosen randomly out of all who sent us messages by noon today wanting to play along.
And the winners are ... Antonio Torrez and Alex Verryt.
As for the rest of y'all, we have plenty more giveaways lined up with the Sullen brand, and remember, you can still win a free tattoo from Nikko. That contest runs until August 1st. Good luck!
Last month, we posted on Sullen's sweepstakes to win a free tattoo from Nikko Hurtado. That contest ends August 1st and all you have to do is go to Sullen's Facebook page, become a fan by clicking Like, and then click the sweepstakes link.
Today, we're having a Sullen-sponsored giveaway of our own: two tees designed by Nikko (in Men's Large) that are part of the The Collective apparel line.
Here's how to play along: Click the Contact link above and put in the subject line "Sullen Contest" by noon (Eastern time) on Friday. Then, I'll put all the names in Randomized.com, which will pick two winners. Easy.
For a look at Nikko's art on skin, see his site and the Black Anchor Collector FB page.
I'll admit that Needles and Sins can get pretty snobby with all our highbrow and tattoo couture blah blah because we want to show that white collars cover up colorful tattoos as well. At the same time, we can't neglect our blue collar brethren, so I found a new company who is showing some love with tattoo-inspired tees for Plumbers, Carpenters, Electricians, Masons, Painters, Roofers and Iron workers.
Rock & Rebar designs work-wear for men "to salute America's craftsmen and union members." The tees are thick, 100% cotton emblazoned with traditional Americana motifs--skulls, daggers, snakes and the like.
On the inside of the collar, where you'd normally find a clothing tag, there's a dedication to James Daniel Butterfly (1973-2007) who died of an accidental overdose. Rock & Rebar is his sister Helen Butterfly's tribute to him.
Helen is a designer who has worked in the industry for over 15 years. When Jimmy died, she wanted to do something positive to recover from the loss, so she created this line to honor her brother as well as her family's blue collar roots.
You can purchase the tees denoting different trades online at RockandRebar.com. Helen also sent me tees to give away to two Needles & Sins winners.
GIVEAWAY: I have the Electrician and Carpenter tees (both medium but on the large side). The first two people to send me a message at marisa at needlesandsins dotcom -- with a description of your tattoos and what trade you're in -- will get one.
It's perfect timing that we're introducing our newest advertiser during our Holiday Gift Guide extravaganza (I never get to use this word enough) because this art-meets-fashion brand has limited edition apparel for the design snobs on your shopping list.
Check Me Against the World clothing company and art crew.
The team comprises Josh Rowan, Sean Baltzell, Adam Taylor, and one of my favorite tattooers and all-around funny guy, Brad Fink owner of Iron Age studios in St.Louis, MO. [Brad also co-owns Fun City Tattoo and Daredevil Tattoo in New York with Michelle Miles.]
The artists of Me Against the World translate tattoo imagery in a way that's unique and refined in their streetwear line, just as they do in their tattoo work. You won't find these clothes amidst the tribal flash tees in Hot Topic. You will find them in boutiques across the country as well as in their hometown of St Louis, where they have also thrown numerous art shows, parties, and events.
Better yet, buy the clothes online. The limited edition tees go for $25 and $28 USD. Check out some designs below.
MATW also offers graphic design and merchandise production for many local and national bands, restaurants, clubs, tattoo studios and events. If you are interested in having them create something for you, you can contact them at matwstl [at] gmail [.] com.
Our Needles & Sins team is thankful for the support of MATW and our other advertisers Devil City Press and Tattoo Culture, which helps take care of our server costs, promo items (more stickers & tees on the way) and our bar tabs so that you can read N+S for free. Please support them for great merch and tattoos.
